Which Preset Format Do You Need?

Before installing, make sure you’re using the correct file type for your version of Lightroom or Photoshop.

 

Here’s a simple breakdown:

 

XMP Files: Used in Lightroom Classic (version 7.3 and newer), Lightroom CC (desktop), and Photoshop (Camera Raw).
If you’re editing on a desktop and downloaded your presets recently, they’re probably in .xmp format. This is the current standard.

 

LRTemplate Files: Used in older versions of Lightroom Classic (before version 7.3).
If you’re using an older version, you’ll need .lrtemplate files instead of .xmp.

 

DNG Files: Used in Lightroom Mobile (for manual import).
If you’re installing presets directly on your phone without syncing through Lightroom CC, you’ll use .dng files. These are image files that you copy settings from.

 

Tip: If you’re not sure which version of Lightroom you’re using, open the app and check under Help > System Info on desktop.
“Lightroom Classic” is the traditional desktop-based version.
“Lightroom” (without “Classic”) is the cloud-based version for desktop and mobile.
